Sounds of Summer ~ June Highlights
Sounds of Summer LIVE Music Series debuts Wednesdays this summer!
There will be a musical energy in downtown Hayward this summer as the Sounds of Summer music series introduces new talent every Wednesday from June through August. Produced by the Downtown Hayward Business Improvement District (BID) this first summer-long music series will entertain visitors from 3 — 5 p.m. each Wednesday, with the first month’s lineup staged at the corner of 2nd and Main Streets.
“We want to add a dynamic atmosphere and a surprise for those who make their annual summer pilgrimage to the Hayward Lakes area,” said James Netz, president of the BID Board and owner of James Netz Photography, Video and DJ. “We also encourage locals and visitors alike to end a perfect day with some live music while they shop and make plans for dinner and celebration at one of our establishments.” Musicians will play rain or shine. Alternate locations in case of rain have been identified with each booking.
June schedule: June 4: My Happy Delusion (rain location Angler’s Bar & Grill) The group that started with informal jam sessions is today recognized for their acoustic and harmonic reinterpretations of obscure and classic pop, country, blues, and rock songs. Enjoy vocalists and musicians Derek Nebel (lead guitar), Steve Oberholtzer (rhythm guitar) and Tanya Thorne (baritone ukulele and percussion).
June 11: Barry Nelson (rain location 3 Fly Sisters Taps & Wines) Having lived in many locations, singer- songwriter Barry Nelson has always considered these Northwoods the place he was meant to be. His home, hidden near a remote water’s edge, provides the solitude required for composing original songs. Nelson creates arrangements that show love and admiration for the music of a variety of artists including John Prine, Merle Haggard, Kacey Musgraves, Ray Price, Willie Nelson, James Taylor, Waylon Jennings and George Jones.
June 18: Smarty Pants (rain location Out of the Woods Winery) Smarty Pants is a dynamic husband and wife duo of Ginger and Brian Pahos of Trego, who have been performing in many top venues and events in Northwest Wisconsin for over 30 years. Expect to hear many favorite country/rock tunes and folk songs from the ’30s to today.
June 25: Catalyst (rain location Social Kitchen + Cocktails) Catalyst is a perfect patio party band, playing songs by Mary Chapin-Carpenter, CSNY, Linda Ronstadt, Beatles, John Prine, Juice Newton, Merle Haggard, Alan Jackson, Heart, Pretenders, and Hoyt Axton. A two-piece band with guitar and bass, Catalyst plays a wide variety of genres, including classic country, Americana, rock, and folk.
