As mountain bikers from across the country roll into the Wisconsin Northwoods for the 2026 Chequamegon MTB Festival, Downtown Hayward WI becomes the center of the mountain-bike universe. And right in the heart of it all is a shop that has been part of the local outdoor community for decades: Riverbrook Bike & Ski.
Located in the historic Carnegie Library building on Main Street, Riverbrook is much more than a bike shop. It is a place where riders come to rent, shop, get fitted, get their bikes serviced, find the right gear—and get advice from experienced people who ride the trails and have competed for years.
NEED A BIKE FOR THE WEEKEND?
Riverbrook offers quality mountain-bike rentals designed for the Northwoods trails.
Choose from hardtail mountain bikes like the Trek Roscoe and Salsa Rangefinder, full-suspension options including the Trek Top Fuel, and even the Trek Fuel EXe full-suspension e-MTB. Rental options are available by the half day, full day and 24 hours, depending on the bike. You may not want to rent this (busy action-packed weekend), but come back for our Fall Festival next weekend and ride into October.

Co-owner Cindy Smith brings more than 30 years of retail experience to the business and has competed in the Chequamegon 40 many times. Co-owner Tim Swift is a former professional road cyclist, national-level cyclocross competitor and accomplished mountain-bike racer who has competed in major Midwest events including Chequamegon. He coached the Hayward Composite Mountain Bike Team.

The 2026 Chequamegon 40 takes place Saturday, September 19, with the 16-mile Short & Fat and Little Loggers also part of the weekend. The Chequamegon 40 sends riders through 40 miles of classic Northwoods terrain from the Hayward/Cable area.
And when the race is over? The trails aren’t going anywhere.
