What’s Old Is New Again
When you visit historic Main Street in Downtown Hayward, you may be inspired to take a piece of yester-year home with you. Luckily, plenty of antiques, vintage finds and new-to-you clothing, handbags, and trinkets are ready to find a new place in your home and life. Here’s a handy tour to guide your personal treasure hunt.
When you enter Main Street from Highway 63, you’ll quickly find a gem in Urban Trek (10584 Main St). Owners Seth and Angie have a carefully curated collection of like-new shoes, clothing, backpacks, accessories and books, plus handmade and brand-new items.
Next, head toward Second Street and turn left. Scrappy’s Antiques (15840 W. 2nd St) has astounding vintage finds and curio-cabinet-worthy collections. Recently the shop’s owner, Barb, added to her vast assortment a 1989 Poison poster (in original packaging), a Dietz Night Watch lantern, a wood display bait, and lots of old postcards! Stop in to see what’s new today.
Back on Main Street, on the left side step into the past at America’s Heritage Antiques (10575 Main St). Owners James and Suzanne travel extensively to find American Folk Art, antique furnishings, hard-to-find collectibles, vintage glassware, frames, sterling silver serving dishes and glass art, vintage lamps and much more. With rare items in stock, their advice is “if you like it, buy it” because it may be gone tomorrow.
Across the street, if reading and music are among your passions, you’ll find Hole In The Wall Books And Records (10570 Main St) a must. Todd has one of the most organized and plentiful array of used books, vinyl, CDs, cassettes, DVDs, and comic books you may ever discover. Pop in. There’s always great music playing and you’ll walk away with entertainment to while away the hours on and around the lake.
At the corner of 3rd and Main Street, you won’t want to miss Ventures Unlimited Inc.’s Thrift Shop and Unique Boutique (10578 Main St). The nonprofit organization provides vocational services to people with disabilities in Northwest Wisconsin. In-store, you’ll find lightly used furniture, décor, clothing plus staff handmade goods ranging from Just For The Birds feeders, Adirondack chairs, fire starters and candles and more.
Wrap up your journey at the Northwoods Humane Society Thrift Store (15861 W Third St) to support pets seeking their fur-ever home. You’ll find a huge, constantly refreshed selection of home goods, glassware, holiday dishes and decorations, clothing and more. All items have been donated and all sales benefit the incredible work at the Northwoods Humane Society.
