NEW EVENT THIS YEAR – Holiday Tree Lighting!
The Hayward Community and Visitors are invited to experience a New Tradition this year, a celebratory Holiday Tree Lighting event to kick off the “Christmas In Hayward” themed weekends. If you travel to Hayward between Thanksgiving and Christmas you may enjoy all of these fun-filled activities, perfect for families and individuals that want to experience the magic of Christmas in a charming small town in the middle of the northwoods.
The New Holiday Community Tree Lighting event coincides with Small Business Saturday, on November 30th, the best day to bring the community together to enjoy this festive start to celebrate the Christmas season. At 5:30pm there are plans for joyous caroling and mingling, enjoy a warm bonfire, some tasty smores and treats, plus hot dogs, apple cider and hot chocolate. There may even be a surprise visit by Santa and Mrs. Claus during the evening. And the countdown to the tree lighting begins around 6pm.
This entire event has been planned, organized and hosted by the Hayward Veteran’s Center and has become part of the activities for “Christmas In Hayward”. It has been the dream, of Mary Poppe’s for over 3 years, to have a beautiful lit holiday tree erected in the center of Main Street as a part of the Christmas events. The idea came to fruition with assistance of Mike Poppe (Mary’s husband) and the recent approval from the City of Hayward. Mary’s dream has come true! With the generous donation and a few helping hands a wonderful evergreen tree made its way to the downtown. The tree, stands over 25ft tall and looks amazing towering over Main Street. It is located where the historic fountain resides during the summer months, between the Hayward Veterans Center and the Hayward Visitors Center. The perfect location to host a tree lighting event.
Before the evening festivities begin, the road, Main St (from Hwy 63 to Railroad St), will be closed to traffic, which will allow for a huge crowd to safely gather and enjoy the event. Make sure you are dressed warm as temps have been quite chilly recently.
When the countdown begins around 6pm, you will witness an illumination and brilliance surrounded by a community full of love and reflection. Embrace these moments and enjoy the peace and blessings during the holidays. We are thankful to be a part of this community event and that it is happening in Downtown Hayward WI.
The Hayward Veterans Center and Downtown Hayward would love to have a huge crowd for the 1st annual Holiday Tree Lighting event to celebrate the beginning of “Christmas In Hayward”. So make sure you share this event with your friends, family, neighbors and visitors.
